Chennai: Food safety officials have banned sales at the Vandalur branch of Buhari Hotel for three days for non-compliance with rules under the food safety act. They can resume sales only after the food safety department clears after a physical inspection of the hotel, Kancheepuram district designated food safety officer Dr T Anuradha said.
At least four families have complained of food poisoning after eating at this hotel on August 15 and 16. On Thursday, a couple and two children told the media that they were admitted to the hospital after a family lunch at the hotel on Sunday. Inspectors reported that there were pests a day after cleaning. The freezer was rusted and the store room did not follow good hygienic practices. None of the food handlers have the mandated medical fitness certificates from doctors.
Officials saw that cooked biryani was sent to the hotel from another branch in Chromepet. “Our officials have lifted samples from the cooked food and raw materials including meat and other ingredients,” she said. If the lab finds them unfit for human consumption we will file cases against the hotel, she said.
